Alas del Beagle is a scenic-flight and aerial-work company that started out in Ushuaia and in 2022 brought its flights to Tolhuin Aerodrome. The name comes from what we identify with most: flying over the Beagle Channel.
We chose Tolhuin for its almost untouched nature and its location: halfway between Río Grande and Ushuaia, very close to Lake Fagnano, with the aerodrome’s paved runway ready for exploring the island from the air.

Take the controls with an instructor
Before boarding you get a short talk on basic aerodynamics and how the aircraft behaves. Then you take off with the instructor and, since the aircraft has dual controls, at some point during the flight you can take the controls and try turns, climbs and descents. Residents get a special rate.

What you will see
Tolhuin sits in the heart of the island: on one side, Lake Fagnano and the mountains; to the south, the valleys that lead down to Ushuaia and the Beagle Channel.
Lake Fagnano
One of the largest lakes in South America, crossing the island from east to west into Chile. Tolhuin lies on its eastern shore.
Beagle Channel
The channel that gives the company its name: the passage between Isla Grande and the southern islands, with Ushuaia, Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse and the mountains behind.
Mountains and valleys

Tolhuin is in the centre of Isla Grande, on National Route 3, between Río Grande and Ushuaia. The aerodrome is about 2 km from town.
